Health and Wellness
Your health and wellness depends on a number of factors such as your genetic make up as well as your lifestyle and both can affect your risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other health conditions. This can ultimately impact on your likely lifespan. It is now possible to have genetic or specialist testing to assess your risks of these various health conditions. This will allow you to make important decisions about your lifestyle and consider medical and surgical interventions to reduce your risk. You can also choose to have better screening for earlier disease detection when treatments are more effective.
All of us have variations in our DNA and genetic makeup (gene mutations) which may predispose to an increased risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease and other health conditions. This can happen even when there may not be an obvious family history.
Our Color Cancer and Color Color Extended tests identify mutations which effect the risk of developing common cancers and cardiovascular disease such as arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy and hypercholesterolaemia.
Our CeGat Genetic Disease Prevention Panels can also identify genetic risk factors for diabetes, glaucoma and other important conditions.
Biological Age and Body Clock
It is well recognised that some people live much longer than others and it is now possible to measure your biological age as opposed to your chronological age. Various (epigenetic) biological body clocks have been developed to measure your biological age. This allows you to make important decisions about your current lifestyle and consider other interventions to reduce your biological age and live longer. Our Clock Foundation Phenoage and Epigenetic Age Tests provide an index of your biological age allowing you to monitor it and potentially slow down the rate of ageing.
Regular checks on your blood pressure and ECG are important ways of checking your cardiovascular function. Those engaging in fitness programmes and athletic competitive sports in particular should consider a “healthy heart check” before embarking on such activities. This is especially important for young athletes because of the risk of sudden death in some cases. We offer subsidised teen cardiac screening as well as adult cardiac screening. All our ECGs are read by and reported by Broomwell Heartwatch whose expert cardiologists screen over 4000 ECGs a week for NHS hospitals and GPs.
Vitamins, Nutrients, Hormones and Organ Function
Our intake and absorption of vitamins and various essential nutrients is important for our general health, fitness and fertility and various health conditions such as vitamin B12 deficiency, iron deficiency anaemia, under active or over active thyroid function and abnormal liver or kidney function. These conditions may not be immediately obvious without formal testing allowing unrecognised potential significant effects on long term health. Our range of health screening blood tests allow you to check your vitamin, hormone and organ function so you can take control of your health and fertility.
1 in 2 of us will develop cancer in our lifetime. In the UK there are three screening programmes to help identify cancer early when treatment is most effective.
Our Trucheck Breast cancer screening test, Trucheck Colon and Trucheck Female cancer tests will identify very early cancers often before they are detected with conventional screening programmes. Trucheck Prostate is also a much more reliable test than PSA Screening for prostate cancer. A fasting blood test is examined for the presence of tiny fragments of tumour DNA which is more accurate than conventional screening.
Our Trucheck Intelli Multicancer test will identify up to 70 different cancers and our Trucheck Diabetes test is suitable for those with type 2 Diabetes who have a two fold increase in the risk of pancreatic and liver cancer.
The Trucheck Breast test has been described by leading oncologists as a “game changer” and has received much media attention. The key measures of the effectiveness of these tests are the positive predictive value (PPV) which is the likelihood of having cancer if the test is positive and the negative predictive value (NPV which is the likelihood of having cancer if the test is negative. For breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer and the multicancer cancer test the PPV and NPV are 99.9%.
This panel screens for female cancers such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, uterine cancer and ovarian cancer. Annual screening for these cancers is particularly important for those having HRT or deciding to start it.
After a diagnosis and treatment for cancer many patients will have close surveillance to pick up any recurrence. Usually this is based on physical examinations and imaging. Our CancerTrack fasting blood test can detect microscopic tumour DNA often before it is clinically suspected allowing early detection of recurrence if it occurs as well as reliable reassurance of being cancer free for those who are cancer free.
