Quad Test

About the Quad Test

Testing for Down Syndrome and Edwards Syndrome

The Quad Test is rarely used these days but remains a useful test if you have missed the dates for a combined test. A sample of your blood is taken at around 15 or 16 weeks of pregnancy (between 14 and 22 weeks is acceptable) and the concentration of four substances in your blood will be measured. These are:

  • alpha-fetoprotein (AFP)
  • free ß-human chorionic gonadotrophin (free ß-hCG)
  • unconjugated oestriol (uE3 )
  • inhibin-A (inhibin)

If you have missed the dates for your combined test, please contact us to book a consultation with Dr Beattie to talk through your options.
