Cervical Incompetence Scan

A transvaginal ultrasound pelvic scan to assess the appearance, length and funnelling of the cervix as a risk factor for mid pregnancy miscarriage, premature labour or premature rupture of the membranes.

Important for women who have had extensive treatment to their cervix such as LLETZ which can cause cervical incompetence and lead to late miscarriage and preterm birth.

If there are early signs of cervical incompetence a cervical stitch or cervical suture can be inserted to reduce the risk.
