hCG Blood Test (FastTrack)
A blood test (Gold Top Vacutainer) to measure the level of the pregnancy hormone hCG (human Chorionic Gonadatrophin or B-hCG).
Early ultrasound scans are unable to identify a heart beat in early pregnancy before about 7 weeks so hCG blood tests are helpful to confirm viability, especially in cases of suspected threatened miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy and molar pregnancy. In a normal intrauterine early pregnancy the levels of hCG or B-hCG double approximately every 2 days. Paired samples taken about 2 days apart are a useful guide to viability.
This test can be taken at our Cardiff clinic or we can arrange for a sample to be taken at your home, work or anywhere in the UK.
FastTrack samples collected before 1200hrs will be reported by midnight on the same day they arrive in lab..
