Rubella (IgG and IgM) Is a blood test (Gold Top Vacutainer) to measure IgG, IgM or IgG and IgM antibodies to Rubella (German Measles). Maternal viral infection with Rubella can cause major damage to an unborn baby as it is one of the TORCH group of viral infections. Rubella vaccination usually provides immunity against Rubella infection but it can wear off. Women who are trying to conceive should check their Rubella status as vaccination is not possible once pregnant.
- IgM Negative implies no recent infection
- IgM Positive implies recent infection.
- IgG Positive implies infection or immunisation (eg MMR) in the past ie Rubella Immune.
